Honoring the Life and Legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. Through His Words

Monday, January 20 is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service, an opportunity to encourage volunteerism and celebrate giving back in your community. We’re honoring the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. by uplifting his words of wisdom. We encourage everyone to take part in #MLKDayofService to honor his words.

“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” – Martin Luther King, Jr.

Whether you’re helping to provide food for neighbors in need, creating a safe environment for kids to thrive in after school or assisting seniors find meaningful connections at any age, the Y has endless opportunities to get involved and help others.

“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.

At the Y, we believe in uplifting the voices of the young people we serve, to develop the skills and confidence to lead positive change in our community and beyond.

“We may have all come on different ships, but we’re in the same boat now.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.

At the YMCA of Reading & Berks County, neighbors from all backgrounds and walks of life discover common ground and broaden their perspectives. Consider volunteering your time to help build connections across differences with each other in our community.

“Intelligence plus character—that is the goal of true education.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.
